The do’s and don’ts for taking care of your granite countertops!

When it comes to taking care of your granite countertops always blot up spills immediately. Acidic substances like wine, coffee, juices, tomato sauce, sodas, and cooking oils can potentially stain a granite surface if not cleaned immediately.

Always clean the surface using a sponge or soft cloth by using a specified formulated natural stone cleaner like granite and marble cleaning spray. Not only do these sprays keep your granite countertops clean they also protect the sealer.

Always use coasters under all glass bottles and cans.

Always place hot pads under any hot pots and pans.

Always use a cutting board to prevent scratches and cracks.

Never use generic cleaning products such as bleach, glass cleaners, degreasers, or other common household cleaners. These products contain acids and other chemicals that will degrade the granite sealer.

Never use vinegar, ammonia, lemons or oranges as a cleaner.

Never use bathtub or tile cleaner.

Never sit or stand on your countertops, unlike laminate countertops, granite countertops are very hard but not flexible. They do not have a plywood backing and too much weight could cause them to crack.
